Hyosung India: Stretching the Boundaries of Innovation in Denim

At the heart of every stretchable pair of jeans is a silent but powerful enabler — spandex. And when it comes to performance-driven, sustainable, and innovation-led spandex solutions, Hyosung stands as a global leader. With its flagship brand CREORA®, Hyosung is not just supplying fibers, it is shaping the very future of denim.

Mr. Brad Lee and Mr. Dinesh Keswani

During the recent DenimsandJeans 2025 Bangalore edition, we sat down with Mr. Brad Lee and Mr. Dinesh Keswani of Hyosung India to discuss how the company is revolutionizing the denim sector through breakthrough materials, deeper brand collaborations, and sustainability-led strategies.

CREORA®: The World’s No. 1 Spandex Brand

Hyosung’s CREORA® is not just the most recognized spandex brand globally—it’s one that’s earned its leadership through relentless innovation. “CREORA is the world’s number one spandex brand. We supply to major denim-producing countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, and of course, India,” said Mr. Brad Lee.

From standard stretch to specialty innovations like 3D Max, Slip-free yarns, and bio-based spandex, CREORA® is tailored for both performance and aesthetics—key to the ever-changing world of fashion denim.

Introducing “Slip-Free” Denim: Solving a Costly Industry Challenge

One of the most impressive innovations Hyosung is promoting in India is its anti-slippage technology, branded as “Slip-Free.”

In denim manufacturing, spandex yarn often slips during the fabric processing and finishing stages, leading to defects like wrinkles and poor stitch retention in finished garments. “We developed a spandex-cotton and nylon blend that provides stronger grip, reducing slippage to near zero,” Mr. Lee explained. This innovation, already widely adopted in Brazil, is being positioned aggressively in India.
The result? Reduced wastage, improved garment quality and higher production efficiency for mills and brands.

Comfort and Durability: A Dual Promise

Hyosung’s spandex solutions don’t just stretch—they endure. “Consumers now demand stretchability with comfort. Traditionally, denim meant rigidity and strength. But that has changed,” noted Mr. Lee. CREORA® spandex caters to both ends of the spectrum, offering high elongation, soft recovery, and superior stretch resilience.

Mr. Keswani added technical context: “Denim goes through heavy washing—chemicals, chlorine, stonewashing. Our spandex is engineered to be heat- and Chemical and Chlorine-resistant, which significantly enhances garment durability so far stretch-recovery-growth is concerned through multiple washes.”

Sustainability Built into the Fiber

Hyosung’s approach to sustainability is multi-pronged, extending from process-level innovations to raw material sourcing:
• Recycled Spandex: Produced using process waste, without tapping into virgin petrochemical resources.
• Recycled Nylon & Polyester: Derived from post-consumer PET bottles and ocean waste like fishing nets.
• Bio-Based Spandex: Using corn and sugarcane extracts to reduce carbon footprint and petrochemical dependency.
Hyosung has gone a step further with a $1 billion investment in bio-polyol infrastructure in Vietnam, reinforcing its commitment to clean manufacturing and self-reliant sustainability. “The global demand for sustainable fibres will only grow. And we’re making sure we’re ready—not just with certifications but with authentic, scalable solutions,” said Mr. Keswani.

Trusted by the World’s Leading Denim Brands

Hyosung has forged collaborations with top-tier global and Indian brands. Its client list includes names like H&M, Aditya Birla, Raymond, Arvind, Raymond, LNJ Denim, Bhaskar Denim, Ginni Internation, Surya Lakshami, KG Fabric and Apparel brands like H&M, Aditya Birla-LP, Inditex, Levi’s India among others.
With a 65% market share in India’s spandex segment, CREORA® has become synonymous with trust and technical excellence. Hyosung doesn’t stop at just supplying yarn—they offer complete technical consultation, troubleshooting, and R&D support to ensure clients can fully unlock the potential of their innovations.

Their workshops with garment factories focus on maximizing the benefits of CREORA® technology, including minimizing losses from anti-slippage issues and enhancing recovery rates in garments.

3D Max: A Game-Changer in Stretch Recovery

A noteworthy technological leap is CREORA® 3D Max, which allows manufacturers to achieve Ultra stretch and best durable recovery, lower growth with a single-core yarn, replacing the costlier and more complex two-core concept. (two core concept: somehow complex, complicated as well costly)
“3D Max eliminates the need for additional machinery, reduces value loss, and ensures consistency post-garment washing. This is already being used by top mills like Arvind and LNJ Denim,” said Mr. Keswani.

Changing Perceptions, Driving the Future

As denim fashion shifts from rigid form to flexible functionality, the role of stretch fibres is undergoing a transformation. “We need to change perceptions—not just among consumers but also manufacturers. Denim doesn’t have to be stiff to be strong,” Mr. Lee emphasized.

Hyosung’s strategy is clear: bring comfort, sustainability, and innovation to the forefront of denim manufacturing. By investing in eco-friendly materials and offering end-to-end technical support, the company is not just selling fibres—they’re enabling a new era of intelligent, responsible denim.

Conclusion: More Than a Material Partner

Hyosung, through its brand CREORA®, is proving that the future of denim lies in smart, sustainable, and adaptable fibre technologies. By constantly pushing the envelope in product innovation, the company is setting new standards in how denim can look, feel, and perform.

For denim manufacturers, brands, and retailers looking to meet the demands of a fast-changing market, Hyosung offers more than just a fibre — it offers partnership, performance, and progress.
