Spinning Four Decades of Strength: Jiwarajka’s Next Leap into Industrial Yarns

By Arun Rao

Jiwarajka Textile Industries began its journey in 1985 as a yarn trading concern and has steadily evolved into a fully integrated polyester yarn manufacturer. Under the leadership of Mr. Sunil Jiwarajka and Mr. Surendra Jiwarajka, the Mumbai-based company has built scale, diversified its portfolio, and is now making a strategic leap into high-performance industrial yarns tailored for technical textile applications. Over the years, Jiwarajka has developed an industry-wide reputation for consistency, innovation, and a strong commitment to quality — values that continue to guide its growth story today.

From Trading Tables to Factory Floors: The Making of a Yarn Powerhouse

The company’s manufacturing journey began in 1992 with the establishment of its first texturizing plant, producing Draw Textured Yarn (DTY) at 500 tons per year. This marked Jiwarajka’s transition from a trading company to a hands-on manufacturer. Recognizing the increasing demand for quality textured yarns, the company strengthened its production base in 2007 by adding another 25,000 tons per year of texturizing capacity, reinforcing its position in the textured yarn segment.

A major forward-integration milestone came in 2011 with the commissioning of POY and FDY production units. With capacities of 25,000 tons per annum of POY and 9,000 tons per year of FDY, Jiwarajka broadened its product scope and achieved a higher level of control over yarn quality and supply-chain integration.

In 2022, the company expanded both POY and FDY capacities by 30%, taking total POY output to 33,000 tons per annum and FDY to 12,000 tons per year. This was accompanied by a renewed focus on product development, customer-specific solutions, and value-added yarns. Now, Jiwarajka is preparing for its next strategic phase — manufacturing Industrial Drawn Yarns (IDY) and Polyester Monofilament (Mother) Yarns — designed for the growing technical textile segment, both in India and overseas.

Growth by Design: Expanding Horizons across Facilities & Products

Jiwarajka Textile Industries currently operates two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities located in Silvassa and Daman, with a third plant under commissioning in Silvassa. Together, these facilities contribute to an impressive combined annual capacity of 105,000 tons — comprising 58,000 tons of POY, 16,000 tons of FDY, and 31,000 tons of DTY.

The upcoming expansion will further extend the company’s footprint with a new line for Industrial Drawn Yarns (IDY) with a capacity of adding 9,000 tons per year and Monofilament Yarns contributing an additional 4,500 tons per annum. These investments are aimed at strengthening Jiwarajka’s position in the high-performance and technical yarn category, enabling greater versatility and responsiveness to emerging market trends.

Threads of Strength: Jiwarajka’s Foray into High-Performance Yarns

“Yarns with high tensile strength are recognized as IDY. “The decision to expand into industrial yarns stems from our vision to diversify beyond our current portfolio and serve the growing demand in both domestic and export markets,” Mr Anish Jiwarajka, Managing Partner explained. “The decision to expand into industrial yarns stems from our vision to diversify beyond our current portfolio and serve the growing demand in both domestic and export markets.”

Industrial Drawn Yarns are known for their strength, stability, and reliability. They form the backbone of fabrics and materials used in heavy-duty applications such as seat belts, conveyor belts, hoses, filtration fabrics, webbings, safety harnesses and nets, tarpaulins, and more. Jiwarajka’s entry into this space is a logical extension of its technical expertise and aligns perfectly with the expanding scope of India’s technical textile industry.

The Complete Spectrum: A Portfolio That Covers Every Fiber Need

Jiwarajka’s current product portfolio is one of the most comprehensive in the polyester yarn segment, spanning POY, DTY, FDY, Polyester Mother Yarn and Monofilament (PMY & MY), and Industrial Yarns (IDY). These are offered in a wide variety of filament counts, cross-sections, and finishes — including bright, semi-dull, and dope-dyed variants.

The company also maintains an extensive colour bank of over 15,000 shades and an in-house R&D division focused on developing functional yarns such as UV-resistant, flame-retardant, and high-tenacity grades. This extensive range allows Jiwarajka to cater to diverse end-use industries — from apparel and home furnishings to automotive and industrial textiles — while ensuring flexibility to meet customized requirements.

Smart, Sustainable, and Future-Ready: Jiwarajka’s Tech-Driven Approach

Jiwarajka’s growth is underpinned by a strong belief in technology-driven efficiency. The company has adopted advanced digital and automation solutions across its operations, including automated warehousing through the ASRS (Automatic Storage & Retrieval System), and real-time digital quality monitoring for each process stage. Its AI-enabled SAP integration has streamlined supply-chain management, production planning, and customer service.

Sustainability remains an equally integral part of Jiwarajka’s operational philosophy. The company invests in energy-efficient machinery, water-saving systems, and circular economy practices such as CiCLO and recycled polyester yarns. Jiwarajka views sustainability as a continuous process — one that blends responsibility with innovation.

Global Threads, Trusted Standards: Jiwarajka’s Worldwide Presence

With a robust customer base across India and more than 30 export destinations, Jiwarajka Textile Industries has firmly established itself as a trusted partner to both domestic and international clients. Its yarns are supplied to renowned fabric producers and textile brands that value reliability, consistency, and adherence to global standards.

The company’s manufacturing and environmental standards are backed by ISO 45001:2018, Oeko-Tex Standard 100, and Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certifications — reinforcing its position as a quality-focused and environmentally responsible manufacturer.

Future Woven with Vision: Expanding the Frontiers of Yarn

Over the next decade, Jiwarajka Textile Industries plans to strengthen three strategic pillars — product diversification, sustainability, and global outreach. The company is actively working to deepen its presence in high-value industrial and technical yarns while expanding into key international markets, particularly in Europe and North America.

Continuous R&D will remain central to this growth, focusing on functional and performance-based yarns that deliver greater value to customers. With these initiatives, Jiwarajka aims to emerge as a leader not just in volume, but in innovation, reliability, and sustainable excellence.
